Unnatural Acts #1: Sniper Enyo PvP

I love weird ship fittings. That's when you can really give yourself an intense EVE Fitting Tool workout and learn a lot about how different modules affect ship performance.

Sometimes you end up with something that gives an significant element of surprise to your combat engagements, which can be a terrific advantage. Or, more likely, you get a bizarre LOLfit that stretches your ship so far beyond its intended purpose that you are almost guaranteed to die - but it's a fun time if you fly it anyway.

Let me therefore unveil the first of what I like call "unnatural acts" in ship fittings: the sniper Enyo.

Normally, you see Enyos fit for face-melting, up close and personal blaster combat. And it excels in that role, delivering very high DPS. But recently, we were getting a bunch of UNIs together to skirmish in an arranged frigate-only battle with another corp, and someone had the great idea to put together a sniper squad.

Looking in my hangar, the only thing I had available was an Enyo.  "Hmm, I wonder if I can make this work...", I pondered, and after a half-hour with EFT, I came up with this fit. "Well, this is either going to work beautifully, or I will die in a fire - let's see how it does," I resigned to myself.

We formed a squad of six sniper-fit frigates, though my fleetmates raised an eyebrow or two when I showed up in an Enyo. "Dude," one of them said, "it's a sniper squad. What are you thinking?" Then I posted my fit in chat. "Oh, interesting... good luck with that," he replied - sometimes sarcasm does translate in chat text.

In practice, the fit worked surprisingly well. In a team, this turned out to be a fun ship to fly. The DPS is not so great - only 82 from the turrets - EFT says volley damage is 263. The drone is only there to harass anyone that gets close, and it sat in my bay, so it didn't contribute anything. However, optimal range is a respectable 64km, with a falloff of 13km - targeting range is 85km. We maintained a distance of 75km from targets, and no one got close to us. Taking advantage of the MWD 50% reduced signature bonus, with a speed of 2,300 meters/second, it was easy to dictate the range of the engagement.

As you might expect, the tank isn't strong - only 8,750 EHP, with moderate resists of 66/78/89/57. You don't want to be primaried in this ship, that's for sure. Also, you will probably need an implant, due to the Enyo's tight powergrid limit - I used an Inherent Implants 'Squire' Engineering  EG-603 implant to make the MWD work. Without an implant, you can fit an afterburner, which reduces your speed to about 884 m/sec - not terrible, but I liked having the extra speed handy.

See any possible improvements? Comments welcome - except for these two: 1. "You should fly ____ ship instead!", and 2. "What a horrible fit!" or similar unhelpfulness.

Fly safe! o7
